I'm so late for this post, (almost one year) but I do want to make sure my post is as informative as possible for those who want to go taipei for a simple free and easy trip, specifically during Chinese New Year and a wheelchair-friendly taipei trip!

My family of eight - my parents, my grandmother who is slow in walking and we brought along a foldable wheelchair, my elder brother, two younger sisters, my grandmother's maid and I, flew to Tao Yuan International airport for a fun trip first family overseas trip.

We booked our air tickets from Jetstar for less than SGD500 each, of which two seats had extra leg room. However, my grandmother and daddy was still complaining of their seats being squeezy despite paying for a larger leg room.

We took a morning flight at 7am on 30th January 2014 (Thursday), Chinese New Year Eve from Changi Airport and arrived at TaoYuan International Airport Terminal 1 around 11:55am. When we were booking the air tickets, my sister had requested for the airport staff to wheel my grandmother through the customs. Our foldable wheelchair was checked in.

The flight took around 4 hours 45 minutes. We will be returning on 2nd February 2014 (Sunday), 3rd day of Chinese New Year.

After arriving at Taoyuan International Airport Terminal 1, turn right after exiting the arrival hall to spot a shop with many telco counters selling all sorts of calling and data cards. A queue is expected; I waited for around 15 minutes. During that 15 minutes, take your time to choose your preferred telco and offerings from the big menu at the counter.

I chose 台湾大哥大 (pronounced as "tai wan da ge da") at NT300 (around SGD14) for 5 days of unlimited data usage. Please remember to bring along your phone and passport for registration so that they can insert your new SIM card in for you, hassle-free! Yeah!

After that, refer to the direction signs to the airport's taxi counter. The rate is fixed at NT1000 (around SGD43) to our hotel location at Xi Men Ding. We had to spilt into two taxis and it was interesting to watch the driver on the left seat, which is right seat for Singapore cars, with all the signals and lane-cutting on the other side.

There we arrived at our hotel, 明日大饭店 (Tomorrow Hotel), as recommended by my primary school friend, Joycelyn :)  Here is the main entrance of our hotel:

A big big map to show you the nearby attractions:

Just look at this image that I have created for my family on the landmarks around this hotel:

5 minutes walk to Xi Men train station Exit 1 and Exit 6.
Exit 6 has a lift which was convenient for my grandmother,
just that we had to take a few more lift trips to the control station.

Feel free to save the above image if you want to stay at this hotel too!

We booked two family rooms, each accommodating to four for NT3880 (around SGD165) a night for one room, including breakfast. We booked via their Facebook and conversed in Chinese; communicating with English would take some time for them to get back to you. We stayed a total of 3 nights.

We left out luggages in our rooms and headed out in search of food! Our hotel's side entrance leads to an alley of Xi Men Ding and Xi Men Ding itself is already an affordable shopping paradise. Oh, that is how our foldable wheelchair looks like.

It was around tea time and we haven't had lunch yet! We settled down at a corner of Xi Men Ding for some duck meat fearing that most shops will close for Chinese reunion dinner. Each small bowl of noodles is NT50 (around SGD2.20) and the plate of yummy goose meat had to be ordered separately at NT500 (around SGD39) for half goose.

Went opposite the duck noodle shop for some milk tea :)

It wasn't exactly yummy and I had forgotten the price :x Just wanted some drinks before strolling along Xi Men Ding area.

If you need a toilet at Xi Men Ding area, visit them at Uniqlo building!

For the days we were in Taiwan, we were fascinated by the entertainment and pride from many street buskers!

My must have street food in Taiwan! Quail Eggs!
